Interested in learning more about the district’s school start time study?
Eden Prairie Schools announced a community conversation around the times that our schools start and end. The topic is being studied ahead of the fall of 2021 when a number of other changes go into effect. If start times were to change, the fall of 2021 would be a time to implement them. No decisions have been made. If a decision is to be made, it would be in the fall of 2020. Communication around the details would happen over that school year, ahead of the 2021-22 school year.
District leaders are encouraging parents/guardians to participate in the study process. Eden Prairie Schools is looking at the research around later school start times for adolescents and reviewing the experience of other school districts. In other districts, moving secondary schools to later start times has meant elementary schools start earlier. Four additional community sessions are planned to encourage participation in the process. Each will feature a guest expert and a process to gather input from participants (the world café model).
