Open Board and Chair Positions for 2018-19
We need you! The Oak Point PTO is a volunteer organization made up of parents who partner closely with Oak Point staff and community members to support our school and its students. Our volunteers organize a variety of events throughout the school year that help enrich the lives of our entire student body and we rely on fundraising efforts to help fund essential resources that our school may not otherwise have available. Our goal is to give our students opportunities to experience people, places, and things that they otherwise wouldn't get the chance to participate in if our school relied solely on its district budget.
We are always looking for parents and family members to help at times that work with your schedule. We currently have some crucial open board and committee positions that we would like to fill as soon as we possibly can in order to maintain our level of commitment to Oak Point and to continue to positively impact the student body.
Always wanted to know more about why Oak Point operates the way it does? Looking for a way to get to know more parents and staff members? Serving as Vice President is a good way to step in and learn about Oak Point and build relationships along the way. Primary responsibilities include providing input on budget decisions, attending monthly PTO Board meetings, and helping as needed at the District PTO Council meetings and with additional PTO functions. Often the Vice President will also hold a leadership position in one of our fundraising events.
Average time commitment is 2-4 hours, and much of the work can be done outside of school.
Are you interested in getting involved with the PTO Board but not sure which role might be right for you? The Secretary position serves a very important role of taking minutes at all PTO Board meetings (1 per month) and PTO General Meetings (3 per year) and may also help with other duties such as incoming mail, scheduling meetings and events, and volunteering at activities.
Average time commitment for this position is 2-4 hours per month.
Communications Coordinator & Team
Do you enjoy social media or have fun with graphic design and like to be in the know about what is happening at Oak Point? The PTO Board is looking for a Communications team that will be responsible for regularly updating the PTO website, maintaining the PTO Facebook and Twitter accounts, drafting constant contact email communications as needed, and creating flyers for meetings and events. This role can easily be shared by 2-3 people. One member of the team will need to attend the monthly PTO Board meetings, and that role can rotate throughout the year. The current Communications Chair will transfer her knowledge to help prepare the 2018-19 team.
Average time commitment per week is 2-4 hours per week, and a majority of the work can be done outside of school.
The current Carnival co-chairs are looking for 1-2 new people to collaborate with them this year to oversee the Carnival planning process with the intent to take on larger responsibilities in the years to come. Many tools and processes have been put in place the last few years to make this job manageable. The main duty of the co-chairs is to oversee the Carnival Committee to ensure each area is organized, serve as the main point of contact for school administrators, and staff, and be available during the Carnival for any questions or issues that may arise.
Book Fair Coordinator
The Book Fair Coordinator coordinates the fall Scholastic Book Fair held at Oak Point Elementary in conjunction with Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion.
